According to Pew Research on online-dating, three-in-ten U.S. adults say they have never used a dating site or app.
While dating apps like Tinder, Match.com, Bumble, etc., have produced many great couples over the years, many users have reported feeling burnt out on dating apps. The seemingly endless pattern of matching and chatting back and forth, with profiles that seem promising, quickly grows monotonous (not to mention the risk of getting ghosted, catfished, and/or receiving unwanted explicit images or messages). And yet, every day, millions of people continue swiping. But why? Whether on dating apps or elsewhere, continuous scrolling is addicting. The optimism that the following profile may be better and the fear that logging off could lead to a missed opportunity to connect with someone creates an exhausting and sustained cycle.
In short, constant swiping on dating apps can contribute to poor confidence and mental health, especially regarding dating. If you’re looking for alternatives to online dating, you’re in luck! There are plenty of other ways to meet people that are just as effective (if not more so).
